It's a cheap way to flood the board with tokens while also removing a threat from the board, and you don't even need your commander in play to get value off of it
Its a great cheap commander for lower-power lifegain decks that want to enjoy an aggressive creature-based strategy without sacrificing on card advantage or aggressive potential

Getting a bunch of 0/1 creatures is a great way to shield your life total from many threats with haste after a Day of Judgment, and then you can sacrifice those that make it to your turn to rebuild your board position with minimal fuss, and possibly even a Blood Artist trigger or three
Bladehold War-Whip: A way to give double strike, and cheapen equip costs
